Potassium Methyl Siliconate Silicone Water Repellent for gypsum and gypsum-based fiber boards
SiFS-16 is an aqueous solution of potassium methyl siliconate for the impregnation of mineral construction materials in diluted form to make them waterproof. SiFS-16 reacts with the atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) to form an active water-resistant substance which firmly combine with the surface of the masonry within 24 hours. SiFS-16 is an ideal and economical water repellent for various construction materials, especially for porous substrate. As with all siliconates, however, SiFS-16 can cause a white deposit on the surface of colored construction materials.
Properties
• React with atmospheric CO2
• Colorless, preserve the natural appearance of the substrate
• Forms potassium carbonate as side products

Application
• Imparts water repellency to:
- porous building materials like bricks, roof tiles.
- aerated concrete
- gypsum and gypsum-based fiber boards
- light fillers, such as perlite, vermiculites and aerated concrete granules
• Densifier for concrete
• Additives for mortars, aqueous construction coatings, etc
• Used as damp roofing agents
How to use
For surface treatment & impregnation, dilute SiFS-16 with water 21-25 times before use, suitable methods like dipping is necessary in order to achieve an adequate, uniform coating. The product is not recommended for treating exterior walls, since the unnecessarily uneven application will give rise to white spots.

ABOUT SILICONE WATER REPELLENT
Silicone waterproofing agent: A series of chemicals/mixtures which containing Si-O bonds and alkyl groups (like methyl, octyl group) in the molecular structure.
The machanism of silicone water repellent:
The SiOH (silicon hydroxy) group react with the substrate to form a thin resin film:
• The silane reacts with water (Hydrolysis reaction) to form SiOH (silicon hydroxy) group and it is can be bond to the OH (hydroxy) of the substrate.
• The silanes occurs condensation reaction to form a Si-O-Si group. The alkyl group (R group) of surface is effectively hydrophobic.
• Most of the molecules of siloxanes and silanes are small with strong permeability. It is has a breathable waterproof effect after curing , and than
prevents liquid water that may contain dissolved chloride or acid from penetrating into the substrate
